What does the drop off process for a trip look like?
Thank you so much for choosing Otto for your trip. Its been our pleasure to have you on our platform! Here’s some tips for a smooth and easy drop-off:
🗺️ Location:
- Insist on returning at the same pick up point to guarantee your safety
- This is usually the host premises
Note: In the future we may provide secure pickup and drop off locations to create greater flexibility. If you’d like this reach out to customer support and let us know your feedback. It helps us know what to prioritize with the limited resources we have 🤗.
🆔 Drop Off With Verified Host :
- Ensure that you hand over the vehicle to the same host that issued it to you, or someone that your host explicitly communicates to you via number provided to you by Otto.
- If in doubt, ask for an ID copy, and if not satisfied do not hand over the keys and immediately contact Otto.
⛽ Fuel Responsibility
- Check the fuel level before drop off and make sure it’s at the same level it was when you received the car
- If you return it below that’s ok too! Jus expect the Host to charge you a KES 100 convenience fee
- If host tries to charge you more than the ~cost fuel + KES 100 convenience fee, contact Otto support for help
🔎 Check For Belongings:
- Scan the vehicle to ensure you have not left any personal belongings behind
🚗 Check & Document Vehicle Condition:
- Do a walk-around with the host to confirm the condition of the car
- Take photos of the front, back, left, and right sides of the vehicle, as well as two pictures of the interior.
- Take a quick video as well for good measure 😋.
- These protect you in the event that a host ever tried file a dispute.
⌛ Late Drop off Grace Period:
- If you drop off the vehicle within 1hr of scheduled drop you will not have to pay any extra
- If you drop off beyond an 1hr, expect the host to charge you a late drop off fee

💸 Post Trip Fees:
- For our initial launch, you’ll have to pay for all post booking fees (Fuel, Late Dropoff, Damage) directly to the host
- If you have trouble b/c you don’t have a payment method the host uses, reach out to customer support and we’ll help get things resolved.
🌟 Leave Review:
- At the time of drop off, your trip will move into the status = Ready for Review
- We recommend waiting until after you have dropped off the keys before completing your rating/review
- Submitting a rating & review is how we actually end the trip, so please be sure to do so 🌟 🏁
