What does my car need to be listed on Otto?
To ensure the safety and security of hosts, their cars and renters we ensure that the vehicle is compliant with the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) regulations, Traffic laws and regulations and Otto’s additional requirements.
As such your car will need to have the following:
👍🏾 Valid Insurance that allows rentals
- Your vehicle must have valid insurance coverage for rental situations. Please see the guide on insurance requirements here.
📜 Valid certificate of roadworthiness
- Your car must have a valid certificate of roadworthiness from the NTSA. Please click here to see the guide on how to obtain a certificate of roadworthiness.
🔧 Standard service
- Your vehicle should have a valid service sticker showing that the vehicle was checked and does not need to servicing during the trip.
- During the service ensure the following is checked;
- Engine oil and brake fluid level
- Coolant and anti-freeze
- Tire pressure, condition and alignment
- Battery inspection
- Brake system checks
- Wiper blades
- Spark plug inspection
- Steering and suspension inspection

Ensuring your vehicle has essential safety items is crucial for compliance with legal requirements and the protecting of renters in case of an emergency. Each vehicle should have the following essentials.
- Working seatbelt and airbags
- Spare tire, jack and wrench
- First Aid Kit
- Fire extinguisher
- Warning triangles
